NELSON EFFIONG HAS THE RIGHT TO DEFECT … ICAN

A non-governmental organization, Ibom Community Assessment Network (ICAN) has said that the Senator Representing Eket Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Chief Nelson Effiong has the right to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive congress (APC).

In a statement signed by the Media Coordinator, Mr. Isonguyo Iniodu, ICAN said based on Chief Nelson Effiong’s interview, which he claimed that the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party in the State did not carry him along, the best option was for him to defect to where he is sure of his future political career.

Mr. Iniodu explained that if what Senator Nelson Effiong said in the interview was true, it was wrong for the Peoples democratic Party to have denied a serving Senator an opportunity to produce executive members of the Party in his ward and at least transition Committee Member in his government area.

“If you are a Senator representing twelve Local Government Areas of your senatorial district in the National Assembly and when it comes to issue concerning your Party, you have no imput, it means you are not relevant to the Party and the best option is to leave. So, for us in ICAN, Chief Nelson Effiong has every right to defect”, the Media Coordinator stated.

The Human Right Activist advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to put it house in order if it wants to make impact in future elections in the State.
