Gov. Emmanuel enlists private sector participation in the fight against economic recession
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has called for effective Private Sector Participation in the repositioning of the country’s economy to enable the country sail through in the prevailing recession in the new year .
Governor Emmanuel made the call when a delegation from United Bank for Africa (UBA), visited him in his office to condole him and the people of the state over the December 10th tragic building collapse at Reigners Bible Church Int’l, Uyo.
The Governor said “the Public Sector cannot function without the Private Sector participation ” and expressed optimism that year 2017 would usher in fresh and better economy than what the country is presently experiencing.
He expressed appreciation to the Board and Management of United Bank for Africa PLC for their partnership with the state government and prayed for greater yield in dividend in the coming year.
Governor Emmanuel commended UBA for commiserating with the state on the incidence and pointed out that more than ninety percent of those who sustained injuries when the building caved-in, have been treated and discharged while few others are receiving treatment in hospitals.
While describing the gesture as an act of true friendship, Mr Emmanuel acknowledged that their condolences to the families of the victims would go a long way in strengthening them and prayed God to heal those receiving treatment on injuries sustained in the mishap.
Earlier, the Group Managing Director of the Bank, Mr. Kennedy Uzoka, who led the Management Staff on the visit, said that they came as part of the Organisation’s corporate social responsibility to commiserate with the people of the state and to thank God for sparing the life of the Governor and others who attended the church during the tragic incidence.
He said the Bank which has been in a long relationship with the state has branches in nineteen African Countries, United States Of America as well as in the United Kingdom used the occasion to pray for the recovery of the injured currently receiving treatment in the hospital. “we feel the pains and wished it was possible to reverse what has happen”
Mr Uzoka, in the spirit of the Christmas season, presented gift items to the Governor and wished him a happy new year.
