EARCOM scores outgone Commissioners ‘ high… sets agenda for new cabinet members
Head of the Media and Advocacy Unit of the Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission, EARCOM, Rev. Osondu Ahirika, PhD, has lauded Commissioners who served on the recently dissolved Akwa Ibom State Executive Council describing them as good ambassadors of their constituencies and communities who served the State well.
Faulting those who say the Commissioners overstayed their welcome or underperformed, Dr Ahirika argued that the best-suited assessor of the performance of the Commissioners is Governor Umo Eno who appointed and supervised them, insisting that if the Governor has scored them high, it is an error for anyone to label them as failures.
Dr Ahirika who bared the position of EARCOM in commending the Commissioners during an interview programme on Passion 94.5 FM on Sunday, also lauded Governor Umo Eno for the dignified exit he accorded the Commissioners, stressing that, every leader in the country shouldn’t fall shy of emulating what he described as the gold standard for sending forth good public servants.
On the constitution of the new cabinet, EARCOM, Dr Ahirika said, acknowledges the capacity of Governor Umo Eno to pick a solid team, consulting widely where necessary and retaining a balanced mix of technocrats and politicians to steady the ship of State going forward.
EARCOM he said would live to see the new cabinet members imbibe the leadership values of accountability, passion, integrity, patriotism and compassion which Governor Umo Eno has so far exemplified.
The incoming Commissioners would need to learn from those who will be retained and consolidate the administration’s ARISE Agenda with a rich profile in youth/women empowerment, inclusion, community development, prudence, empathy for the poor and vulnerable, service delivery and responsiveness to the general welfare the people,” Dr Ahirika said.
