The National Social Housing Project in Akwa Ibom State would be commissioned on November 1, 2018, says facilitator and renowned Social Housing expert, Architect Ezekiel Nyah Etok.

The Social Housing Scheme when completed will eventually come to fruition eleven years after conception.

Conducting newsmen round the expansive site to show progress of work-done so far,  Arc Nya-Etok, reiterated that the project, a pilot programme of the Federal Government Social Housing Scheme will have its first phase completed and keys handed over to prospective owners by November 1, 2018.

“The Social Housing Estate is more strategic for us because it will beat Ewet Housing and other estates. The concept of the estate is an empowerment concept. One of the most exciting things about the estate is its landscaping. It is going to be an environment friendly estate,” Arc Nya-Etok said emphatically.

Continuing, he said: “This Housing Estate is going to be one of the few Housing Estates in Nigeria where every infrastructure is finished before the next phase. Contract for the internal roads have been awarded and the work is ongoing. It is going to be secured with complete CCTV that will be controlled from Abuja through satellite.

“Powering the estate will be completed by the end of July. There will be no borehole. We have a company that will handle water with every housing unit properly metered. Each housing unit will have its cooking gas outlet because the gas will be centrally supplied. There will be an independent power company for the estate. We will have solar and electricity.

“We are not building an estate where a low income man will come and live. We are building an estate where he will be a house owner.

“I will make sure a minimum of 40% of the unit of houses are in this Estate are owned by civil servants in the state.”

The land for the estate which is directly opposite the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Olusegun Obasanjo Way was donated by the state government under the administration of Arc. Obong Victor Attah.
