Ahead of the 2019 governorship election of Akwa Ibom state, there is a serious fear among youth groups in the All Progressives Congress, APC, over the return of “mbiam”, a traditional oath.
The Akwa Ibom state coordinator of APC National Youth Caucus, Otuekong Iniobong John revealed this via a WhatsApp message, where he indicted the wife of the NDDC MD, Mrs. Ese Nsima Ekere.
In a WhatsApp message, Mr. John accused one Steve of forming a new youth group and administering “mbiam” to his members in the name of getting support and commitment for Obong Nsima Ekere’s governorship ambition.
He lamented that some members of his group left to join Steve because he (Steve) claims that the wife of the NDDC MD, Mrs. Ese Nsima Ekere is behind the new youth group, claiming that Nsima Ekere is not aware of the diabolic act.
“I have heard that some members of this group have joined another youth group formed by Steve who claims that Her Excellency (Nsima’s wife) is behind the group and advised him to administer mbiam to members. Before you take any mbiam, please tell your wife and family who gave it to you before you come tomorrow to blame Nsima Ekere because he is not part of that diabolic act”, he wrote.
Reacting to the story, an APC youth leader from Nsit Ibom who gave his name as Clement, said that he was not surprised by the news because foresaw it because he knew Nsima Ekere will not do anything in politics without getting some kind of commitment.
Mr. Clement further revealed that it was because of his knowledge of who Nsima Ekere is that made him feel reluctant to join any of the pro-Nsima Ekere groups, adding that so many young people will sell their soul the devil just for Nsima to become the governor.
Also speaking, one Bassey Esin, a member of APC Youth Caucus from Okobo, confirmed that he was with his chapter coordinator when Mr. Iniobong John called to warn his coordinator against taking any oath in the name of supporting Nsima Ekere and also asked the same warning be passed to all the members in Okobo.
Another member of the youth caucus who pleaded anonymity, said that the national coordinator of the new group, Steve has invited him to join the new group but that he is yet to confirm if Nsima Ekere is aware of the development as well as the level of Mrs. Ekere’s involvement.
Meanwhile, all efforts to reach Mr. Iniobong John and Nsima Ekere’s chief press secretary, Inemesit Ina for their own side of story, were unsuccessful as they neither answered their phone or respond to text messages.
