Abdulsalami Abubakar, Ken Nnamani, Onofiok Luke monitor Liberia election
.Global/Continental duty calls for AKHA Speaker
Rt Hon Onofiok Luke’s rapid emergence as a leader to reckon with has continued in amazing fashion with the AKHA Speaker in Liberia alongside former Nigeria Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd), to observe the Liberian presidential and legislative polls.
Rt. Hon. Luke is part of the NDI International Election Observation Mission for the 2017 Presidential and Legislative Elections in Liberia under the leadership of General Abubakar, Sen. Ken Nnamani, former Senate President; Dr. Chris Fomunyoh, Senior Associate and Regional Director for Central and West Africa, NDI Cameroon; and Senator Gary Peters (D-MI), Armed Services Committee, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee in the United States.
Liberia, devastated by a 14-year-old civil war and the Ebola epidemic will be experiencing for the first time the process of a democratically elected president handing-over to another President.
The presidential election is being fiercely contested by 20 candidates. However, there are four frontline candidates; namely incumbent Vice President, Joseph Boakai of the Unity Party (UP); football icon, George Weah of Coalition for Democratic Congress (CDC); Liberty Party’s (LP) Charles Brumskine; and the Alternative Congress’ (ANC) Alexander Cummings.
For a country which produced the first female president in Africa, there is only one female candidate, MacDella Cooper vying for the Presidency this time.
