AKS workers to enjoy 50% tax rebate

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Finance Mr. Akon Okon has explained that Civil Servants in Akwa Ibom State are to enjoy 50% tax rebate as part of their contribution to the development of the state economy rather than being over taxed as wrongly misinformed by a cross section of the media in recent time, dismissing the speculation that the State government plans to imposed 50% tax regime on civil servants.
The commissioner of Finance Mr. Akon Okon, made the disclosure while exchanging views with Newsmen during the 2015 Uyo mandatory professional training programme organized by the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigerian (CITN).
The commissioner said Akwa Ibom State government does not intend to impose 50% obnoxious tax regime on civil servants rather the state administration is working assiduously to evolve strategies of improving the state internally generated revenue base due to dwindling economic recession and he called on the media to help government educate the people on government policies and programmes as watchdog of the society.
The finance boss reteraited the need for synergy between the state government and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigerian (CITN) in moving the state forward and commended the Institute for the professional training of the members.
Earlier, while declaring the training open, Mr. Akon Okon, had assured the Institute of the state government determination to diverfication of the economy, according to him, Federal allocation is going down everyday and there is need for us to harness our potentials for even development and called on them to sustain advocacy and sensitization programmes.
The training programme was attended by National President of (CITN) represented by the Vice President C.I. Ede, Permanent Secretary budget office Pastor Nicholas Ekarika, Pastor Bassey Umoh Permanent Secretary Government House, tax consultants and resource persons.
