Abak Chairmanship Seat: Ignatius Ukpe Consults Afaha Obong Youths
It was like a carnival at Ukana Mkpa Eyop Village, Afaha Obong in Abak Local Government Area last Saturday as the leadership of Afaha Obong Clan Youth Association consisting of youth presidents of the 24 villages of Afaha Obong Clan and the National Executive officers overwhelmingly received their Patron I, Mr. Ignatius Ukpe who was on a consultation visit to the youths.
Introducing the Chairmanship hopeful, Elder Eventus Awakama said they decided to visit the youths of Afaha Obong Clan since the people of Abak have agreed that the next chairman of Abak Local government council should come from Afaha Obong Clan, having being the only clan in Abak that has never produced an elected chairman of the council since the return of democracy in 1999.
Elder Awakama pointed out that all the aspirants that have so far emerged from Afaha Obong Clan are all qualified, but according to him, since the seat is for only one person and after carefully assessing all the aspirants, discovered that Mr. Ignatius Ukpe is the best choice for the seat.
He described Mr. Ignatius Ukpe an international businessman, a philanthropist and a worthy son of Afaha Obong Clan who has put food on the tables of many people.
In his speech, the chairmanship aspirant, Mr. Ignatius Ukpe who received a thunderous applause from the crowd for his outstanding track record of achievements, said since it is the turn of Afaha Obong Clan to produce the next chairman of the council, he has decided to run.
Mr. Ukpe promised that if elected, he will key into the state government industrialization policy so as to create job opportunities to indigenes of Abak.
The International businessman advised the youths to go back to their respective villages and sensitize the people that the chairmanship position is coming to Afaha Obong Clan and should rise up in the spirit of “Dakkada” to take what rightly belongs to them.
The chairmanship hopefully, a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka noted that as a businessman, more than 50 graduates are working under his employ, assuring that if elected, he will create employment opportunities to the youths of Abak.
He lamented the dilapidated state of schools in Afaha Obong Clan in particular and Abak local government in general. Mr. Ukpe specifically mentioned Primary School, Ikwek Afaha Obong which according to him, was established in 1927 and assured that if elected, he would tackle renovation of schools to provide a conducive learning environment for students.
He solicited the support of the youths for his aspiration.
Responding on behalf of the Afaha Obong Clan Youth Association, The National Vice President II, Mr. Nsikan Williams, described Mr. Ignatius Ukpe as an outstanding businessman, an illustrious son of Afaha Obong Clan and one of the most reliable Patrons of Afaha Obong youths who has used his position to touch the lives of his people positively.
Mr. Williams noted that the youths are looking for chairman who would look into the welfare and development of Afaha Obong Clan in particular and Abak in general and expressed happiness that Mr. Ignatius Ukpe has all the qualities needed to become the Chairman of the Council.
On his part, the National President Afaha Obong Clan Youth Association, Prince Nsikan Ibanga thanked Mr. Ignatius Ukpe for always identifying with the programmes and activities of the youths especially the sponsorship of the Afaha Obong Clan Unity Cup Football Competition in 2013 among others.
Others who spoke at the occasion including the President Abak Clan Youth Association, Mr. Sylvanus Jimmy, Mr. Valentine Uko, Village Youth Presidents among others, extolled the qualities of the aspirant and solicited support for his aspiration.
